From Closure to Opportunity: The Story of Exit 4 Urlingford
The Urlingford Town Team, a newly formed voluntary group, collaborates with Kilkenny County Council, Kilkenny LEADER Partnership, and others to address local challenges and seize opportunities to rejuvenate Urlingford and enhance the community’s quality of life.
Our journey began with the closure of the Urlingford branch of the Bank of Ireland in 2021, which prompted us to embrace the new post-COVID hybrid work model. Thanks to the support from the Town and Village Renewal Scheme by the Department of Rural and Community Development, we acquired the bank building. With the generous support of Kilkenny County Council and our partners, we’ve successfully transformed it into Exit 4 Urlingford, a remote working hub.
Exit 4 Urlingford is poised to be a cornerstone in creating a sustainable community in Urlingford. It will encourage individuals to live and work locally, contribute to environmental sustainability through reduced commuting, bolster local entrepreneurship, and provide opportunities for upskilling our community as an approved member of the TUS Learning Gate Network by Technological University of the Shannon.
